Crif Dogs |
Excellent |
A small, subterranean hole in the wall with a menu of fun, creative, wonderful hot dogs. This is a real "East Village" kind of experience, with classic video games and funky music.
Worth a special trip. Hot dogs from $1.50, fries from $1.75. Toppings are extra, and of course you want toppings, so expect to spend around $2-3 for a hot dog. (2005-07-24)

Pomme Frittes |
Excellent |
The best french fries I have ever had, with dozens and dozens of sauces to choose from. Get the small - it is plenty large enough, and then purchase an extra sauce. Sauce favorites include mango chutney mayo, roasted garlic, and jalapeno ketchup. After moving to St. Marks Place, I purposefully avoided the fries because I had just received a high LDL count from my last physical. But then, after a week of (nearly) fat-free eating, I was just dying for some fat and so I had some of these fries and... well the experience was orgasmic - I'm not kidding.
So, my recommendation is to go fat free for a week, then have an order of fries from Pomme Frites. If you want to know what it feels like to be a drug pusher, then share them with your friends - they too will soon become addicted. (2005-09-13)

Surf City Soup & Smoothie |
Very Good |
Excellent fat-free smoothies made with fruit, juice, and a "special smoothie mix" (soy milk). Also a wide variety of soups for those cold evenings. My only complaint is that some of the fruit is canned, not fresh, but it's right there in front of you, so just choose what looks good. Special recommendations: Papaya Peach Smoothie, the Chicken & Corn Chowder.Smoothies $3-6, soups $3-7. Smoothies can get even more expensive if you pile on the extras (e.g. protein powder, bee pollen, ginseng, etc.). (2005-07-18)

Paul's |
Very Good |
Okay, the burgers really are pretty great: Ground sirloin, cooked on a griddle under a cup (to preserve moistness). I was skeptical but came out a believer.
And don't forget to look up at the flying toys hung from the ceiling. Fun!
Went back a second time. The turkey burger was excellent. The "Pizza Burger" was good and very messy, though the Pizza sauce could have used more spice to it. The fries were just fine, nothing special. Note: avoid the pickles.
Burgers ($4-9, two dollars more with fries, lettuce, and tomato), other hot sandwiches ($4-5), eggs - many varieties ($3-5), grilled cheese sandwich varieties ($2-5), milkshakes ($2.25 - consider a 'frosted', a milk shake with extra ice cream). (2006-01-23)

Dallas BBQ |
Good |
Standard Bar-B-Que restaurant, like you'd find anywhere. But having said that, 'Dallas BBQ' has good reliable food, fast service, easy take-out, and a large menu. I've had the ribs, the chicken, and the salads and they've all been good. So, no reason to go out of your way for 'Dallas BBQ', but if you have a hankerin' for BBQ, then this will surely satisfy your need.
Appetizers from $2-8, Salads from $3-9, burgers from $7-11, chicken platters from $5-7, $11 ribs, entres from $10-17. Also has turkey burgers. (2005-07-18)

BAMN! |
Good n Quick |
Quick and easy - automat food. Food is being constantly re-stocked by the staff so it's always fresh. Many comfort-foods (grilled PB&J, grilled cheese sandwiches, hamburgers, fried mac & cheese bites, etc.), excellent French fries with dipping sauces (almost but not quite as good as the Belgian Fries).
Not that healthy, but good, cheep, and quick. Most things are 1-2$. Fries are 4$. (2007-11-03)
