EastVillage.com

This site is run by the Mosaic Man, who is the one who really puts up all the mosaic light posts. His name is Forest, and he maintains the site as a gift to all of the artists in the East Village. I can't think of anyone else who has so much determined the character of the East Village in such a positive way.

Please go to this site, browse around, and click on some of his ads to support him!  (2006-01-26)

New York Songlines

This is a site which contains virtual walking tours of New York. This particular link is a virtual walking tour of St. Marks and 8th street (which are the same, you know). The layout is a bit confusing, but basically as you scroll up and down, it's as if you were walking east or west down St. Marks / 8th street.  (2006-01-26)

Scout out these movie sites

Amusing
The official site "New York in the Movies" lists three movie sites, all of them within the St. Marks place. Two around Thompson square, and one at Stuyvesent and 10th.

However, the East Village has lots more movie sites than are shown here. For example, Desperately Seeking Susan was shot all around St. Marks. Also, I happen to know that the final episode of Absolutely Fabulous was filmed on St. Marks btwn 2nd and 3rd (by the fiberglass lady statue, if she's out).

And for movie star sitings, I've head that Karen's on Astor Place (scroll to the bottom) is good, although I've never seen any movie stars there myself.  (2006-10-20)
