Theaters
New York is theater heaven - and the St. Marks neighborhood is no exception.
One of New York's venerable institutions, "The Public" is a non-profit theater with many different stages, ranging from 100-300 seats. The public has premiered tons of the most important plays and shows, many of which have then moved to Broadway - including "Hair", "Angels in America", "Noise, Funk", "A Chorus Line", etc. They also run 'Shakespeare in the Park' and so occasionally you'll see long lines of people waiting to get their free tickets.
